FROM THE DIOCESAN OFFICE
August 28, 2008UPCOMING EVENTS
Instructed Eucharist with Bishop Howard – Everyone is invited to Bishop Howard’s Instructed Eucharist on September 13. Come and be involved in new and exciting ways to understand the whole service of Eucharist. The day begins in Mandi's Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Please bring your Book of Common Prayer, especially one to make notes in.
Ministry Exploration Weekend – If you are interested in further exploring a call to new areas of ministry in the Church -- lay or ordained -- please make plans to attend the annual Ministry Exploration Weekend to be held at Camp Weed from 5:00 P.M., Friday evening, October 24th, through Saturday afternoon, October 25th.
Anyone 18 years of age or older interested in learning more about serving Christ in the Church is welcome and encouraged to attend. During this event, participants will hear from laypersons, deacons and priests on the many and diverse areas of ministry within the Church -- with an emphasis on discerning your own call as you may sense God's urging you to explore. "Exploration" and "discernment" are central to the weekend's focus.
We will also have communal worship, quiet time apart, and opportunities for individual conversation. While this weekend is a mandatory step in the Diocesan "Journey of Discernment" for aspirants for Holy Orders -- Deacon or Priest -- it is also intended to provide the opportunity for greater clarity for those sensing God's call to potentially new or broader areas of ministry, or perhaps a more focused ministry, but which may yet be unfolding. The weekend is offered by the Commission on Ministry and guest presenters. For further information, please contact The Rev. Dennis O'Neill, Chair, Commission on Ministry, at revdoneill@comcast.net. To register for the Ministry Exploration Weekend go to the Diocese of Florida Website (http://diocesefl.org ), go to the Diocesan Center for Christian Living box, click on the Ministry Exploration Weekend listing and use the Mail or Online Registration form.

In conjunction with our covered-dish luncheon in September, we will be having our fall kick-off with a ministry fair. There will be tables set up around Worsham Hall with displays by the various committees and ministries at Good Shepherd. This will provide an opportunity for everyone to learn about all the activities and ministries of the church, and perhaps to sign-up to participate in one or more o them.Amity Turkish Cultural Center Dinner ~ September 24, 2008
At 7:30 p.m. on September 24th, we will enjoy a special meal and presentation by members of the Amity Turkish Cultural Center. Amity Turkish Cultural Center is a non-profit organization established in 2006 to promote better understanding and closer relations between Turkish-American and American communities in North Florida. This will provide us the opportunity to learn more about the Muslim faith and also to share a meal and fellowship with some of our Muslim Jacksonville neighbors. A sign up sheet will be provided next Sunday. Mark your calendars! To find out more about the ATCC speak with Nick Humphries or visit their website at www.atccenter.org/.How YOU Can Help –
