How YOU can help – Donate your government rebate to Good Shepherd
At the annual meeting of our Parish, we learned of the great opportunities we have before us to grow our church family, share in increased fellowship and learning, serve God's people in our community and deepen our spiritual lives. We as a congregation are blessed to now share in Father Doug's ministry and are poised for God's will to be done among us.

For this time of great opportunity to be maximized, we all must do our part as stewards of God's gifts to us. Through our time we can tutor, repair, welcome and build relationships. Through out talent we can communicate, sing, teach and cook. With our treasure we can give, invest in and finance the infrastructure to make the future of our Parish as bright as we and God want it to be.

Most all of us are slated to receive an "economic stimulus" distribution from the federal government. At the Parish meeting, John Zell committed to give his stimulus check to the church to help fund the great work that we are blessed to do. He also challenged each person there to do the same. Think about it. If 100 of us contribute our $600 stimulus checks to the church, we would raise $60,000. 150 checks would raise $90,000. What if every adult contributed...

In the next few weeks the US Treasury will begin sending out checks and making direct deposits. Again, the challenge is there to send that straight to Good Shepherd. With the financial resources in hand and the leadership we have, we will grow larger in numbers, deeper in spirituality and wider in God's mercy.

[For more information please contact Jodie Coleman, Treasurer at 722-4496 or treasurer@goodshepherd23.org.]

Father Doug out of the office
Father Doug will be out of the office until May 19. Father Gee Alexander will be covering the office and celebrating on Wednesday and Sunday. Contact the church office at 387-5691 or parish@goodshepherd23.org if you need assistance.

Vestry Meeting – May 19 – 6:00pm – Craig Lounge
An important agenda will be presented. Vestry Members, come prepared to discuss the Vestry Papers you received at the last Vestry meeting.

Luncheons for 8
Dinners for 8 have been special events for the last several years. We gather in a home to enjoy a meal and fellowship with other members of our parish. Some have said that they prefer to participate in a luncheon instead of a dinner. If you are interested in attending a Luncheon for 8 instead of a Dinner for 8 please contact Susan Merrett at
ssmerrett@comcast.net or 387-3418. Also, please let us know if you are interested in having a Luncheon for 8 in your home."

Ministry for Older Adults To Discuss Effects of Spirituality, Aging

The Council on Ministry To The Aging, a new organization for older adults in the community, will host a free program designed to explore how spirituality can make a direct and positive impact on the aging process.

“Spirituality and Aging,” a discussion with a question and answer segment, will be held at 10 a.m., May 8, at Riverside Avenue Christian Church, 2841 Riverside Ave., Jacksonville, FL

The speaker for the event, Fr. Tony Palazzolo, is part of the Diocesan Center for Family Life, a ministry of the Catholic Diocese of St. Augustine and St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Though non-denominational in origin, the event will discuss the role that spirituality plays in adults as they see their lives coming full circle.

Betsy Clark, one of the events organizers, sees the discussion as one necessary for adults of all ages to begin to understand and embrace the effects of spirituality on the aging process.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 904-389-1175.
